Campbell Hits 5 3-Pointers

LINDSBORG – In a makeup game from a weather cancellation on January 9th, the Smoky Valley boys hosted Hillsboro on Thursday and fell behind early without being able to catch up, losing 55-65.

Now 2-9 for the season, the Vikings will look to get back in the win column on Friday when they play host to the Tigers of  Clay Center. Clay Center will enter the game with a season record of 5-6.

Falling behind by six, 14-20 at the end of the first quarter, the Vikings found themselves 12 points at 25-37, heading into the halftime break. Coming out of the break, Hillsboro added points to their lead, 41-56, and while the Vikings outscored the Trojans 14-9 in the final eight minutes, it was not enough and lost by 10.

Taylor Campbell led the Vikings with 17 points thanks to connecting on five three-pointers, Ki Blanchat made three three-pointers and ended the game with 15 while sophomore Ty Heitschmidt just missed double digits with eight. Braylon Olson led the offense by dishing out six assists with Campbell and Blanchat being not just scorers as they also each passed out four assists. The Vikings recorded 17 assists on 20 shots made from the field. Eight Vikings shared rebounding stats and six recorded steals in the game.

A VIKING HIGHLIGHT OF THE GAME - While the Vikings only connected on nine-of-twenty-eight two-point shots, they did make more than half, 11-of-21, on three-pointers in the game.
