Peters Gains 3 Gold, Boughfman Earns 1

MARION – It was a successful day on Friday for the Smoky Valley boys and girls track/field teams as they traveled to Marion for the Marion Relays and came home with six gold medals and team finishes of second and fifth.

The Lady Vikings finished second in the team standings with 110.50 points as Chapman took the team title with 128 and Marion, Hutchinson Central Christian and Goessel rounded out the top five of 15 teams participating.

Breanne Peters was the star for the Lady Vikings as she won both the pole vault and long jump in the field events while also placing first in the 100 meters. Peters also placed second in the triple jump.

The quartet of Katja Blanchat, Esther Clark, Sophia Eyer, and Taytum Reed combined to win Smoky Valley both the 4x400 and 4x800 meter relays.

Esther Clark ran second in both the 1,600- and 3,200-meters.

The Viking boys finished fifth in the team standings with 58 points. Chapman also won the boys team title while Marion, Chase County, and Hutchinson Central Christian joined Smoky Valley in rounding out the top five of 15 teams participating.

Auley Boughfman had the lone gold for the Vikings as he won the triple jump. Gavin Stambaugh ran second in the 100 meters and the relay team of Kaden Bishop, Ki Blanchat, Brayden Eyer, and Samuel Peterson combined to earn a second-place finish in both the 4x400 and 4x800 meter relay events.

The Smoky Valley track/field teams will play host to an invitational on Friday, April 12.
