TEUTONS RUN OVER BY MARION

SCHRAG LEADS INMAN STAT SHEET

By Staff

MARION – Looking for another run at the state championship hit a snag for the Inman High football team on Friday as they went on the road to open the 2023 season at Marion and found themselves on the losing end of a 46-22 rundown.

Marion scored twice in the first quarter on lengthy runs of 40 and 73 yards while the Teutons Kellen Schrag broke loose for a 42-yard scoring run of his own to keep Inman within eight at 14-6.

After Marion scored on another long run, this time of 52 yards, Schrag punched into the end zone from seven yards out, keeping the Teutons within six at 14-20 at the halftime break.

After Marion scored again in the third on another long run, they pounded into the end zone three more times in the fourth quarter to take a commanding 46-14 advantage before Schrag was once again able to find the end zone for Inman from 35-yards to give the Teutons the final 24-point, 22-46 loss.

Inman ran 45 plays on offense for 215 yards and nine first downs while Marion pounded the Teuton defense for 528 yards on 57 snaps with 19 first downs, including 485 yards running the ball.

Individually, Kellen Schrag, the Teutons senior running back/linebacker, dominated the stat sheet as he supplied nearly 95% of the team’s offense by running for 179 yards, completing a pass for 26 and catching a Caleb Bigler throw for another eight yards. Schrag also led the defense with 14 total tackles of which eight were solo stops. Dawson McConnell also reached double digits on defense as the Teuton senior had 10 total with four being solo.

The Teutons will look to get the offense on track next Friday, September 8, when they go on the road again, this time to Sedgwick.
