PETERS LEADS VIKING TRACKSTERS AT REGIONALS

Peters Win 4 Events, Team State Qualifies in 6 events, 3 Relays

BELOIT > At their Class 3A State Regional Meet in Beloit, the Smoky Valley track/field teams qualified individuals in six events plus three relays for the state meet coming up on Friday/Saturday, May 24/25 in Wichita at Cessna Stadium.

 

For the Lady Vikings, Breanne Peters put on a show as she qualified for state by winning four individual events, the 200 meters plus the long jump, triple jump, and pole vault.

 

Eshter Clark was also a double qualifier by finishing in the top four for both the 1,600 and 3,200 meter runs while Trista Spitler was the other state qualifier for an individual event when she finishes second to Peters in the triple jump.

 

The Lady Vikings also qualified the 4x800 meter relay team as they finished the day second in the team standings with 71 points. Regional host Beloit won the team title with Norton, Southeast of Saline, and Hoisington rounding out the top five teams.

 

For the Viking boys, they finished with 16 team points which tied them for ninth with Phillipsburg. Holcomb won the team title with Lakin, Southeast of Saline, Goodland, and Hoisington being the top five teams in the team standings.

 

Though no individual Vikings qualified, both the 4x400 and 4x800 meter relay teams qualified for state.
