LARNED – It appears that the Little River High volleyball team is ready to defend its state championship as they took care of business on the road Tuesday in Larned, winning all three matches in straight sets while not allowing any match to get within 12 points.

Beginning with host Larned, the Lady Redskins took care of business quickly, scoring a straight set win 25-11, 25-13 as Larned played Little River the closest of anyone the entire day.

Against Udall, Little River scored a decisive 25-5, 25-5, straight set victory before closing out the quad meet humbling Fairfield with a 25-10, 25-5 win for the Lady Redskins.

The Lady Redskin junior varsity squad also won all three of their matches in straight sets as well.

Alaina Eck, Aubrey Olander and Ashley Stephenson combined for 51 kills on the day as Eck recorded 19, Olander had 18 and Stephenson made 14. Kami Grasser and Lucy Wright each scored seven kills and Havana Olandr had six as well.

Kate Ellwood directed much of the Little River offense by dishing out 32 assists with Evie Look pitching in with 15.

Other stat leaders for the Lady Redskins included Kami Grasser scoring 10 service aces and Adelynne Strecker making 27 digs.

“I was pleased seeing out younger kids play really well tonight,” noted Lady Redskin head coach Kim Rolfs in her post-meet reflections. “Lots of potential in our youth while our upperclassmen led really well tonight. The entire team is super excited the season has started.”

Next up for the Lady Redskins will come on Tuesday, September 5 when they travel to Herington for a Mod-Quad with Herington, Solomon and Wakefield.
