After finishing 9-2 in 2025, the Little River football program looks to regroup and reload in 2026.
A year ago, the Redskins went unbeaten in Wheat State League games and made it to the third-round of the state playoffs. Little River will need to lean on returning experience and familiar coaches on the sidelines as they look to stay among the best small school programs while competing in 8-man Division II.

Head coach Kevin Ayers begins his eighth season at Little River, bringing a remarkable 67‑15 record with the Redskins and a 227‑54 career mark. His teams have long been known for disciplined, physical football built around an option‑based offense and a steady 3‑2 defensive look. This fall will test consistency as graduation took a heavy toll, with eight seniors departing from last year’s roster.
Even with those losses, Little River returns several key pieces who have played meaningful snaps. Senior Jaren Garrison gives the Redskins versatility at quarterback, running back, and linebacker, while Blayne Baldetti provides size and athleticism at tight end and defensive end. Jhet Ewertt returns both in the backfield and at free safety, with the offensive line being anchored by senior Elijah Stagner. Logan Schubert adds depth in the defensive secondary and reliable depth at receiver on offense. Juniors and sophomores such as Bryson VanEaton and Jake White will be asked to step into larger roles as the season progresses.
The Redskins’ schedule offers a balanced mix of challenges, opening at Ell Saline before home dates with Herrington and Victoria. Road trips to Canton‑Galva, Stafford, and Sylvan Grove highlight the mid‑season stretch, with home matchups against Lacrosse and Ellis rounding out the slate.
Ayers notes that chemistry and leadership will be the deciding factors in how quickly this group comes together. Both losses last season came by a single score, and the staff believes that playing their best football at the biggest moments will be essential. The goal is to develop a team that improves each week, plays with discipline, and embraces the physical style that has defined Little River football.
With returning experience in key spots and a coaching staff that knows how to build winners, Little River enters 2026 with questions to answer — but also with the tools to remain a contender in the Wheat State League.
