LITTLE RIVER BOYS LOOK FOR STATE TITLE

ree

RENKEN & GARRISON TO LEAD REDSKINS IN 2025/26

By Staff

LITTLE RIVER – Closing the 2024/25 season at the state tournament only to lose to eventual state champion Olpe, left a desire for the 2025/26 team to peak even better and aim for a state title of their own!

Beginning his fifth season in charge of the Redskin program, Erik Base has accumulated a record of 59-31at this point while being assisted by former McPherson College head coach, Roger Trimmell.

A year ago the Redskins finished 15-8 while placing second in Wheat State League play. They did qualify for the Class 1A Division I state tournament where they lost in the first round by four points to eventual state champion Olpe.

Looking back at last season, coach Base noted, “we did an excellent job of growing as a team as the season progressed. We were playing our best basketball at the right time, in the playoffs.”

While the Redskins will need to replace multi-year starter Logan Renken, they do return Jaren Garrison, a six-foot junior guard who averaged 11.2 points and 4.5 rebounds per game while gaining first-team all-league. Also returning is second-team all-league Jaxson Konen, a six-foot-three senior who scored 9.2 points per game a year ago. Both Garrison and Konen earned honorable mention all-state honors as well.

Senior Ty Janette, juniors Blayne Baldetti and Logan Schubert plus sophomore Lincoln Raleigh also will be back and each played a bunch of varsity minutes a year ago.

Little River sophomores Nash Look, Kade Feldman, and Cam Strecker are players the coaches say will be on the court a lot.

Overall, Konen and Janette are the only seniors on the 2025/26 roster with the remaining 16 spots coming from six juniors, six sophomores and four freshmen.

Closing out his reflections on the upcoming season, coach Base stated, “We return all but one player from our state qualifying team a year ago. We have had a great off-season with player growth and development. We look to build on the successes we had at the end of last season and expect to be extremely competitive while positioning ourselves to have a special season in the end.”

The Redskins will open the 2025/26 season on Monday, December 8 playing Hutchinson Central Christian at the Goessel Bluebird Pre-Season Classic. They will follow up with in the tournament with a game playing Elyria Christian on Friday, December 12 before getting a third game on Saturday. The Redskins then close out the pre-holiday break schedule at Moundridge on Tuesday, December 16 before getting their home opener in on Friday, December 19 hosting Wakefield.
