State Qualifiers in 14 Events

GREENSBURG – On Thursday, the Little River track/field teams ran, threw, and jumped at the Class 1A state regionals in Greensburg where they brought home state qualifiers in 15 events while finishing third as a team in both the girls’ and boys’ divisions.

The Lady Redskins scored 55 points which place them third behind regional champions Kiowa and runner-up Hutchinson Central Christian. Bucklin finished fourth and Coldwater/South Central ended up fifth.

Both the Olander sisters made state qualifications in a pair of events as Aubrey Olander finished second in both the 100- and 300-meter hurdles while Havana placed fourth in the 100-meter hurdles and won the triple jump.

Also making state qualifications for the Lady Redskins was Kate Ellwood in the pole vault and the relay quartets in both the 4x100- and 4x400-meter relays.

In the boy’s division, the Redskins scored 47 team points which put them third behind regional champion Kiowa and second-place Bucklin. Otis/Bison and Hutchinson Central Christian rounded out the top five in the team standings.

Andrew Smith qualified for state individually in a pair of events by finishing third in the 100 meters before winning the 400 meters. Jay Smith won both the 100- and 400-meter wheelchair events to qualify for state. By finishing fourth in both the 4x100- and 4x800 meter relays, Little River qualified in a total of four running events.

The Redskins also qualified three in field events as Tristan Bristow placed fourth in the high jump and both Cole Dieball and Christopher Norez qualified by placing third in the discus and javelin, respectively.
