LINDSBORG – At home on Friday, the Smoky Valley girls played tough until faltering late in the game and losing a heartbreaking 40-47 verdict to visiting Clay Center.

 

Now 7-5 for the season, the Lady Vikings will be on the road at Lyons on Tuesday before returning to the homecourt on Friday to host Nickerson.

 

After holding a one-point, 13-12 lead at the end of the first quarter, the Lady Vikings fell behind by one at 20-21 heading into the halftime break. Coming out of the break, Smoky Valley scored 10 points in each of the final two quarters and Clay Center scored just 19 total, leaving the game tied at 40-40 at the end of regulation play.

 

In overtime the Lady Vikings went cold on offense as Clay Center out scored them 7-0 in the overtime to gain the final seven-point victory over Smoky Valley.

 

Only three Lady Vikings scored in the game as Katja Blanchat had a team high 17 points with Tinley Scott scoring a dozen and Adrian Hazelwood chipping in with 11.

 

Blanchat recorded a double double in the game as she grabbed a game high of 13 rebounds. Both Scott and Hazelwood pulled down six rebounds each.
