LINDSBORG – On Thursday evening in a makeup game due to weather in early January, the Smoky Valley girls hosted unbeaten and second ranked in Class 2A Hillsboro, whom they held on to an early lead and scored a 47-46 upset win.

Now 7-4 for the season and riding a five game win streak, the Lady Vikings will be back on the competitive hardwood on Friday when they play host to Clay Center. The Lady Tigers will bring a 6-5 record to the game.

With both teams playing point for point in the third, Smoky Valley still held an eight-point, 35-27 advantage over the Lady Trojans going into the fourth quarter when Hillsboro pushed the Lady Vikings with a huge rally, only to have the Lady Vikings hang on for the final one-point victory.

Adrian Hazelwood led the Lady Viking in scoring with 17 points, assists by dishing out five and steals with three. Katja Blanchat just missed a double double with nine points and nine rebounds while Eva Malm also scored nine and Tinley scored chipped in with seven points.
