BEAT HAYS, NICKERSON IN STRAIGHT SETS

NICKERSON – It was a good road trip on Tuesday for the Smoky Valley volleyball team as they hammered both Hays and Nickerson at Nickerson, winning both matches in straight sets.

The Smoky Valley spikers are now 9-2 on the season as they ready for a tournament at Ell-Saline on Saturday, September 9.

Against Hays, the Lady Vikings held on for a 25-23 win in the first pulling away in set two for an eight-point, 25-17 win and match victory.

Adrian Hazelwood directed the offensive side of the game as she dished out 21 of the teams 24 assists. Hope Duncan and Katja Blanchat led Smoky Valley in kills with nine and seven, respectively, and Breanne Peters dug out nine digs.

In the nightcap against host Nickerson, the Lady Vikings allowed another close first set before winning 25-20 and then hammering out a 25-11 victory in the second set to finish the day 2-0 with straight set wins in both matches.

Hazelwood again led the offense by handing out 17 of the teams 18 assists. Hope Duncan topped the kills stat with nine while sharing the team high in digs with Ceeley Friesen, Tinley Scott and Katja Blanchat as they each dug out five.
