BUHLER – In their second meet of the season, the McPherson Middle School cross country team ran at Buhler Prairie Hills Tuesday morning to beat the heat and scored a gold medal among the four total medaling done for the day.

“Some of the team were really able to build on their first performance last week,” noted head coach Matt McCasland. “It was nice that they moved our start time up to 9:30 a.m., so the temperatures were much nicer.”

Adeline Kramer made it two-for-two on the season as she brought home another first place gold medal by running a time of 10:30 in the seventh-grade girls 1.5-mile race.

It was a huge day for the seventh-grade Junior Bullpup harriers as they scored three other medals beyond Kramer’s gold with Ava Mendoza finishing fifteenth in the girls race while Elliott Schoming and Paxton Weiser earned medals in the boys division by finishing eighth and fourteenth, respectively.

Speaking of Kramer, coach McCasland added, “Addie (Kramer) going two for two on gold medals to start the season is so awesome. I believe she is the first runner to do that in the six years I have been on the staff. She ran out front today and set the pace. She has some competition at the top from a rival Buhler runner, but she was able to hold her off by one second today. Addie showed a lot of toughness while Ava (Mendoza) was able to build on her first mt and medal today as well.”

In the eighth-grade, two-mile races, Eliza Jex just missed a medal by finishing sixteenth in the girls race while Logan Starks was the top Junior Bullpup boys running, finishing twenty-ninth.

Coach McCasland concluded his post meet reflections by saying, “I am really proud of our seventh-grade boys today as Elliott (Schoming), Paxton (Weiser) and Parker (Riemann) have really settled into running as a pack this season. Today, Elliott separated from the pack a bit with Paxton and Parker having to chase him down a bit which really pushed their pace, and they were all able to finish with great times.”

Next up for the Junior Bullpup harriers will be on Tuesday, September 12 at Lake Afton Park in a meet hosted by Goddard.
