JUNIOR LADY PUP TENNIS DEVOUR WELLINGTON IN SEASON OPENER

MCPHERSON – On Thursday, the McPherson Middle School girls tennis team kicked off their 2023 season with a decisive 16-2 victory over Wellington on the Junior Lady Pups home courts.

“Today was a great start to our tennis season,” said Junior Lady Pup head coach Paul Reichenberger. “The girls played through their initial nervousness and competed hard all afternoon long.”

Among the highlights for the singles division was the play by Mayson Wiens, Hayden Eveland, Liz Britting, and Ellie Frye as all four girls finished winning 6-0. Audra Sandbo and Maddie Eckholm each went 6-1 for the day.

The team scored an 11-1 win in singles while going 5-1 in doubles.

In doubles competition, the tandem of Lleyton Kuhn and Mayson Wiens went unbeaten at 6-0 while the duo’s of Mirmitha PremAnanth and Hayden Eveland as well as Stephanie Fonseca-Gonzalez and Ellie Frye both finished 6-2.

Coach Reichenberger concluded his post meet reflections by adding, “I was proud of their effort tonight and how well they are communicating on the court. This team has the potential to be special.”

Next up for the Junior Lady Pups will be another home contest, this time hosting Prairie Hills from Buhler on Thursday, September 7.
