‘A’ Team now 3-2, ‘B’ Team Gets 1st Win

MCPHERSON – It was a good day Tuesday for the McPherson Middle School eighth-grade volleyball teams as both the ‘A’ and ‘B’ teams defeated visiting Haysville/Campus.

‘A’ TEAM WINS, 25-12/25-12

The ‘A’ team moved their season record to 3-2 by hammering the visiting Junior Lady Colts in straight sets, winning 25-12 and 25-12.

“Our eighth-graders came back swinging this week with a big win over Haysville/Campus,” noted head coach Christine Pianalto in her post match reflections. “All around our passing was more consistent, with each player contributing good defense. Our setters were able to get good balls to our hitters today, and we had some great swings and net play. Our Junior Lady Pups served well and served hard, keeping the visitors from being able to attack.”

‘B’ TEAM WINS IN 3 SETS – 23-25/25-20/15-9

The big excitement on the day came in the Junior Lady Pups ‘B’ team game as they fought back from a heartbreaking first set loss to win the final two sets and get their first win of the season.

Now 1-4, the ‘B’ team lost a close, heartbreaking two-point, 23-25 first set to Haysville/Campus before powering back to back-to-back wins, 25-20 and 15-9, in the final two sets to record their first win of the season. The ‘B’ team is now 1-4.

‘B’ team coach Tami Malm was happy for the team as she reflected on the match by saying, “The ‘B’ team played three good sets to get our first win of the season!! Overall, our serving was much better tonight plus the girls communicated well and were definitely quicker on their feet. Our passing was better as well, but not where we know it can be. The home crowd definitely helped our energy and confidence.”

Next up for the Junior Lady Pups eighth-grade spikers will be a road trip on Monday, September 11 to Buhler Prairie Hills.
