By Staff
GREAT BEND – On Thursday, alongside the high school runners, the McPherson Middle School cross country team opened their 2023 season with 14 runners competing where Adeline Kramer won her division.
In the 7th-grade girls division one-mile run, Kramer won the event with a time of 6:44.40, outdistancing 46 other runners including two other Junior Lady Bullpups.
Only one Junior Lady Bullpup ran the two-mile, 8th-grade girls division, but Eliza Jex made the best of it by running a 15:50.80 which placed her eighth among 31 runners.
For the 7th-grade boys division, McPherson had five Junior Pups competing which gave them enough for the team standings and they finished 4th behind Dodge City, Hays, and Great Bend. The top harriers for the 7th-grade Junior Pups were Elliott Schoming, Paxton Weiser, and Parker Riemann who placed 11th, 12th, and 15th among 53 runners.
The 8th-grade Junior Pups running a two-mile race placed ninth as a team, well behind team champion Dodge City. Nickson Muehler finishing 30th was the top runner for McPherson among sixty runners.
On Tuesday, September 5, the McPherson Middle School Junior Pup runners will return to the cross-country courses with a meet at Buhler Prairie Hills Middle School.
