LOST SPRINGS – On Saturday, the Elyria Christian girls won their fifth game in a row when the took the championship trophy at the Centre Invitational with two-point, 50-48, win over Marion.

“I am so excited for our girls,” noted Lady Eagle head coach Greg Fields. “They have worked so hard over the  last couple of months to  be in a position like this to play in a championship game of a mid-season tournament! To come out with a win against a quality opponent is remarkable. Marion is extremely well coached, and I have seen how much their team has improved since the beginning of the season. This  was a fun game to be a part of.”

After taking a five-point, 14-9, lead at the end of the first quarter, the Lady Eagles allowed Marion to bounce back and tie the game at 25-25 heading into the halftime break.

Elyria pulled away to gain a nine-point, 39-30, lead at the end of the third quarter before having to hold of a Marion rally in the fourth quarter to earn the final two-point victory.

With the win, the Lady Eagles are now 7-5 for the season and have won five games in a row and seven of their last eight games played.

Coach Fields noted the final quarter by saying, “The girls showed that they could face adversity and keep their composure. Every time we built a lead, Marion answered and got it right back to a tight game.”

Grace Prescott and Addison Swenson provided most of the  offense for the Lady Eagles as Prescott scored 19 and Swenson chipped in with 17 thanks to connecting on five three-pointers. Joy Pyle just missed double digits with nine points while leading the team in the paint with six rebounds.

Concluding his post-game, post-invitational reflections, coach Fields added, “Addison (Swenson) and Grace (Prescott) were  outstanding tonight and they both played all 32 minutes and kept the energy level up on both ends of the court. Addison has been shooting with a lot of confidence lately, and she hit some crucial shots of  us tonight. Grace was clutch all night, but especially at the free throw line during the final minute to seal the game for us. Julia (Allen) had a great night by making some incredibly hard stops. She has put a lot of work in over the last four seasons, and it was so special to see her rewarded with the opportunity to celebrate a big win with her team. Joy (Pyle) is not playing like a freshman anymore as she is putting up solid numbers.”

The Lady Eagles return to the hardwood on Thursday when they play host to Centre in a makeup game.
