Pyle Leads Lady Eagles

ELYRIA – The Elyria Christian girls continue to step forward as the won games nine and ten in a row with a pounding of Peabody/Burns team on Monday followed by a buzzer beating of Goessel on Tuesday.
With the wins the Lady Eagles are now 12-5 for the season and working on a ten-game win streak after beginning the season 2-5. Next up will be Friday at home when they play host to the unbeaten Little River, the top-ranked team in Class 1A Division I.
Next week Elyria closes out the regular season with a road game at Berean Academy on Tuesday followed by a home battle with Marion on Friday, February 16.
On Monday in a weather makeup game with Peabody/Burns, all nine Lady Eagles put points in the scorebook as they easily beat a rebuilding Peabody/Burns team, 42-3.
“Peabody/Burns is rebuilding their team, so this was a great opportunity to let some of our younger girls start and get significant minutes,” noted Lady Eagle head coach Greg Fields.
Joy Pyle scored a double-double with a game high 15 points and 10 rebounds. Among the younger players getting some quality court time, Hannah Bower, Amelia Moody, and Kami Noogle combined for five points, a pair of assists, nine rebounds (both Bower and Noogle had four) and 11 steals with Moody and Noogle getting five swipes each.
Closing out his reflections on Monday’s game, coach Fields added, “While we did not shoot the ball well, we had several girls stand out tonight. Kami (Noogle), Amelia (Moody), and Julia (Allen) were exceptional on defense with five steals each. Joy (Pyle) had her first double double as a freshman, her four blocked shots were impressive as she only played seventeen minutes.”
On Tuesday, the Lady Eagle win streak was kept alive by a three-point, game winning shot made by Addison Swenson giving Elyria the three-point, 28-25 win over Goessel.
According to coach Fields, “This was an incredibly well played defensive game that we were fortunate to win. Both teams played hard all night on the defensive side of the ball, and there were no easy shots allowed. Goessel is an extremely well coached team and we struggled to run our offense.”
In between Swenson’s opening three pointer and buzzer beating game winning three, the Lady Eagles struggled having to overcome 22 turnovers and 15 whistled fouls to get the victory.
Joy Pyle led the Lady Eagles in scoring with 12 while Makenna Cass topped the work on the boards with seven rebounds.
Coach Fields concluded reflections on the game by saying, “I was proud of the way our girls kept their focus where it was supposed to be all game. They could have been frustrated by not getting calls, but instead they just continued to battle and remain positive.”
