2 Junior High Runners Earn Medals

By Staff
TESCOTT – It was the season opener for the short-handed Canton/Galva cross country program on Wednesday at Tescott, but the Eagle junior high team still managed to earn four medals on the day.
For the high school team, only Garrett Silsby ran, and he finished 31st in the 5K run with a time of 23:39.49.
The Eagle junior high harriers had three runners with eighth-grader Faith McMannis landing a third-place finish in the girls division though no times were recorded due to an officials malfunction.
Two eighth-grade boys, Jaycob Dieker and Aaron Long both medaled for the junior Eagle boys with Dieker finishing fourth in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 5:52.11 while Long placed eighth with a time of 6:15.52.

“It was a great start for our athletes,” noted Eagle cross country coach Tina McMannis. “Of course, it was highlighted by all three of our junior high competitors bringing home medals. Our team will need to continue to work on building our endurance for upcoming races.”
The junior Eagle runners will be back on the course Tuesday, September 5 at Salina Sacred Heart while the senior high Eagles will run again at Hesston on Thursday, September 6.
