7th-GRADE JUNIOR LADY PUPS SPLIT MATCHES IN SEASON OPENER

‘A’ TEAM STARTS BY GOING 2-0

AUGUSTA – On Monday, the McPherson Middle School 7th-grade volleyball teams began their 2023 season on the road in Augusta for a triangular with Augusta and Circle.


As it turned out, the ‘A’ team won both matches by going extra sets while the ‘B’ team tumbled in both of their matchups.


‘A’ TEAM RESULTS > Defeated Augusta 2-1; Defeated Circle 2-1.


In the Junior Lady Bullpups 7th-grade matches, McPherson need to go an extra set both times. With August they lost set one 21-25 before bouncing back to win set two by two at 25-23 and then set three by three points at 15-12. They followed up with a first set win, 25-22, over Circle and then losing set two 21-25 but then going extra, extra sets to beat the Junior Lady Thunderbirds by two, 20-18, in the final set to finish the day unbeaten at 2-0.


“What an exciting way to open our 2023 season,” explained 7th-grade Junior Lady Bullpup head coach Destiny Espinoza. “We had some highs and lows and ended up pulling it off in the end. When our communication is up, we are able to really compete well. I am so proud of the girls for not giving up and fighting until the end.”


‘B’ TEAM RESULTS > Lost to Augusta 0-2; Lost to Circle 0-2.


If did not go as well for the 7th-grade Junior Bullpup ‘B’ team as they lost both matches in straight sets with Augusta scoring a 12-25, 16-25 victory followed by Circle winning 8-25, 13-25. The girls start the season 0-2.


The coaches closed out their reflections on the 2023 season openers by saying, “Even though it didn’t have the outcome we wanted, the girls worked so hard to put what we have practiced into play. I am excited to see how the rest of the season goes because I believe there is a ton of potential on this team!”


On Thursday, the 7th-grade Junior Lady Bullpups will travel to Hays for a triangular with Hays and Great Bend.
