WILDCATS SPLIT PAIR TO END WEEK

Lose to Bennington, Defeat Hutchinson Trinity

MOUNDRIDGE – Putting an end to a busy week, the Moundridge boys split a pair of home games which saw them lose a buzzer beater to Bennington on Thursday before scoring a win over Hutchinson Trinity.

On Thursday, Bennington came to town with a record of 11-3 for the season to tangle with the Wildcats, ranked fourth in Class 2A and took an immediate lead of three, 14-17 at the end of the first quarter. Moundridge bounced back to stack out a four point, 33-29 advantage going into the halftime break.

Coming out of the break, the Bulldogs took back the lead at 43-46 heading into the final eight minutes of play where Moundridge fought back from a seven-point deficit to take a one-point lead at 60-59 with just 5.3 seconds left on the clock. Somehow, Bennington threw up a three-pointer as the buzzer sounded to win by two, 62-60.

The Wildcats did not seem to have an answer for Bennington senior Eli Lawson as he put 39 points in the scorebook, 21 points over his game average. Moundridge also had to play with foul issues as they were whistled with 21 for the game, including four each on both Kepple Adolf and Kreighton Kanitz.

Barrett Moddelmog led Moundridge in scoring with 19 points thanks to hitting four three-pointers. Both Kreighton Kanitz and Henry Hecox also reached double digits with 18 and 12 points, respectively.

On Friday, the Wildcats closed out the week with a solid 72-47 win over visiting Hutchinson Trinity.

The Wildcats jumped out early to a 13-point, 25-12, lead at the end of the first quarter and took a 40-23 advantage into the halftime break before cruising in for the final 25-point victory.

Barrett Moddelmog let the team in scoring with 17 while Kreighton Kanitz chipped in with 13 and both Henry Hecox and Kaizer Kanitz added 11 each as nine Wildcats put at least a pair of points on the scoreboard  in the game.

Now 13-3 as they enter the final two weeks of the regular season, the Wildcats will travel to Sedgwick on Tuesday and then play host to Remington on Friday.
