LITTLE RIVER – It was a huge statement for the Moundridge football team on Friday as they traveled to Little River to battle the perennial eight-man powerhouse Redskins and came home with a dominating performance plus a 58-20 victory.

With the win, the fourth-ranked Wildcats improve to 5-0 as they now prep to return home on Friday for a battle with Solomon. The Gorillas are 2-3 for the season and will be coming off a 36-24 win over Goessel.

Moundridge spotted Little River a 6-0 lead before putting 28 points on the scoreboard in the first quarter thanks to a pair of long scoring runs of 51 and 73 yards by Kreighton Kanitz plus a 29-yard scoring pass from Henry Hecox to Barrett Moddelmog and a quick 20-yard spring to the end zone from Hecox.

Adding two more scores in the second quarter from a 34-yard run by Kreighton Kanitz and an eight-yard pass to Kaizer Kanitz from Hecox, the Wildcats went into the halftime break with a commanding 42-14 advantage.

Moundridge added two more scores in the second half as they scored the decisive 58-20 win over Little River.

“Our offensive line paved the path for our ground game tonight,” noted Wildcat head coach Tyler O’Connor. “We took care of the ball and limited the big plays which was the difference in the game.”

While each team had success on offense with Little River earning 23 first downs and 340 yards in offense, the Wildcats recorded 15 first downs but had 440 yards in offense on just 37 plays, including 403 yards running the ball. Moundridge owned third downs, converting five of six while not turning the ball over.

The transfers, Kreighton and Kaizer Kanitz paid off in the game as Kreighton ran for 179 yards on just six carries and Kaizer rambled for 82 yards on 11 carries. Stuck in between them was junior quarterback Henry Hecox who ran the ball ten times for 121 yards.

Defensively, it was a true team effort as five Wildcats recorded at least 10 tackles including Joaquin Huff, Kreighton Kanitz and Kaizer Kanits each having 14.
