WILDCATS ROLL AGAIN IN 48-0 WIN

MOUNDRIDGE – On Friday evening, the home crowd got see a defensive juggernaut that the Moundridge football team has become this season as they shutdown and shut out Pretty Prairie 48-0 for their fourth straight victory and second straight shutout.


Now sitting at 4-0 on the season, the Wildcats have outscored opponents in the 2023 season by the tune of 191-12, giving up just six points each to their first two opponents before scoring back-to-back shutout wins.


Ranked number five in 8-Man Division I according to catchitkansas.com, Moundridge will face huge test on the road next Friday when they travel to battle with Little River, a team that is 3-1 and humbled Solomon 54-8 on Friday.


The game also recognized the Moundridge football team from 1973 who earned a Class 2A state championship.

For the Wildcats, they scored three times in each of the first two quarters and adding in six straight two-point conversions they reached 48-0 in time to end the game at halftime due to eight-man point rules.


In the first quarter, Kaizer Kanitz dashed into the end zone from 38 yards out for the Wildcats first score before Henry Hecox scored twice on runs of 27 and 12 yards. Adding in a Hecox, Kaizer Kanitz and Kreighton Kanitz two-point conversion runs, Moundridge held a commanding 24-0 early lead.


Kreighton Kanitz, Hecox and Joaquin Huff all scored in the second quarter on runs of 10, 25 and three yards, respectively. With two-point conversion runs by Hecox, Kaizer Kanitz and Hugg, the Wildcats reached 48 points which ended the game at halftime due to point rules.


No team stats were available, but we were told that the Wildcat defense held Pretty Prairie to just seven yards in offense while rolling up 236 offensive yards themselves. Of the 236 yards, 200 came on the ground led by Henry Hecox who picked up 103 yards on just eight carries while Kaizer Kanitz picked up 65 yards on three totes.


Defensively, Joaquin Huff led the Wildcats with seven tackles of which three went for a loss of yards. Moundridge totaled eight tackles that resulted in a loss of yards by Pretty Prairie.


First year Wildcat head coach Tyler O’Connor had a brief reflection on the game when he said, “Our defense came through again and gave us the ball with great field position. Our offensive line showed improvement and laid the way for our running game.”
