Boys earn 1st with 7 Golds; Girls finish 3rd with 3 Golds

LYONS – The Moundridge track/field teams had a successful trip to Lyons on Friday as they earned both first and third placing in team standings while bringing home a total of ten gold medals.

The Wildcat boys managed to roll up an impressive 141 team points to win the team title with ten teams competing. Little River placed second with Central Plains, St. John/Hudson and Lyons round out the top five.

Heath Churchill was a double gold winner as he finished first in both the high jump and 110 meter hurdles while Kaden Elmore in the 200 meters and Dan Kuder in the 3,200 meters also won on the track and Kreighton Kanitz, Henry Hecox and Brayden Elmore won in the field events by winning the triple jump, javelin and pole vault respectively.

The Lady Wildcats finished the meet with 74 team points, placing them third behind team champion Little River and Larned. Russell and St. John/Hudson rounded out the top five in the team standings.

Cammi Unruh came home with a pair of gold medals by winning the 100 meters and long jump while Haylee Jantz had the third Lady Wildcat gold for taking first in the 1,600 meters.

The Moundridge track/field teams will be back throwing, jumping, and running on a competitive track on Tuesday at Goessel.
