Lady Wildcats Finish Second

MOUNDRIDGE – Hosting the Heart of America League track/field meet, the Moundridge teams nearly pulled off a sweep of the team titles as the Wildcat boys won the league championship and the Lady Wildcats finished second.

The Wildcat boys won the team title with 104 points, just one point ahead of second-place Berean Academy with 103. Ell-Saline, Bennington, and Sedgwick rounded out the top five of the 11 team field.

Leading the Moundridge charge to the team title was Kaden Elmore who won three league individual titles by winning the 100-, 200-, and 4-meter runs that included season best times in the 100 and 400.

While the Wildcats did not win any other individual titles, they did run second in four events including Heath Churchill in the high jump, Brayden Elmore in the pole vault, Daniel Dixon in the discus and Henry Hecox in the javelin.

Cammi Unruh also won three individual events in leading the Lady Wildcats to a second-place finish. Unruh won both the 100- and 200-meters before going to the field events and getting the top jump in the long jump.

Finishing with 90 team points, the Lady Wildcats ended up second behind county rival Inman who won the team title with 140 points. Remington, Bennington, and Sterling rounded out the top five.

Besides Unruh, the Moundridge girls earned first-place medals in the 3,200 meters with Haylee Jantz, and the 4x400 meter relay. Hattie Hecox placed second in both the triple jump and javelin while Jantz ran second in the 1,600 meters.

Next up for the Moundridge track/field teams will come on Thursday, May 16 in Eureka for their Class 2A State Regionals.
