Elmore & Unruh Earn 3 Regionals Championships

EUREKA – The Moundridge track/field teams traveled to Eureka on Thursday for their Class 2A State Regionals and brought home a team championship for the Wildcat boys and the third-place finish for the Lady Wildcats while gaining three individual championships for both Kaden Elmore and Cammi Unruh.

For the Wildcat boys, they scored 103 team points to finish five points ahead of second-place Garden Plain. Berean Academy, Marion, and Hutchinson Trinity rounded out the top five.

In winning the regional title, the Wildcats won four events and qualified eight individuals and one relay team for the state meet in 11 events.

Leading the team was Kaden Elmore who scored a clean sweep in the dashes as he won the 100-, 200-, and 400-meter runs including season best runs in the 200 and 400.

Heath Churchill also earned a regional title in the high jump while also qualifying for the state meet in both the 110- and 300-meter hurdles.

The Kanitz brothers, Kreighton and Kaizer qualified for state in the triple jump, as did Daniel Dixon who will throw the discus, Dan Kuder will run the 3,200 meters, and both Henry Hecox and Barrett Moddelmog will compete in the javelin.

The Lady Wildcats scored 79 points to finish third behind regional champion and county rival Inman with 134 and runner-up Garden Plain who scored 91. Remington and Sterling tied for fourth to round out the top five.

Cammi Unruh scored a regional championship in both the 100- and 200-meters as well as the long jump. The other regional championship came with the 4x400 meter relay team.

Other Lady Wildcats who qualified to continue their season at the state meet included Haylee Jantz who finished second in both eh 1,600 and 3,200 meters, Hattie Hecox in the triple jump and javelin plus the 4x100 meter relay team.
