MOUNDRIDGE – While the Moundridge boys made their final game of the regular season a heart stopping two-point win, the Moundridge girls overcame a poor first quarter to run away for a 23-point victory as they swept visiting Sterling on Tuesday.

 

The Wildcat boys finish the 2023-24 regular season 17-3 and have secured the number one seed at their Class 2A sub-state where they play host to eighth seed Herington (7-13) on Monday, February 26 at 7:30 pm. If they win, they will then play the winner of Hillsboro (#4, 12-8) and Berean Academy (#5, 9-11) game on Friday, March 1 in Marion.

 

Finishing the regular season with a nine-game win streak and getting 14 wins in 15 games, the Lady Wildcats also finished their season at 17-3, the Lady Wildcats will enter their sub-state as the second seed, meaning they play seventh-seeded Herington (8-11) on Monday, February 26 at 6:00 pm. If they win, they will tangle with the winner of Berean Academy (#3, 15-5) and Ell-Saline (#6, 11-9) on Thursday, February 29 in Marion.

MOUNDRIDGE WILDCAT BOYS hosting Sterling

 

After trailing much of the game, senior Kreighton Kanitz put nine of his game high 21 points on the scoreboard in the fourth quarter to lift the Wildcat to a two-point, 54-52 win over visiting Sterling.

 

The Wildcats trailed by five, 11-16, at the end of the first quarter and by three, 13-16, going into  the halftime break. Still down by three, 38-41, after three quarters, the Wildcats then rallied to nip Sterling for the victory.

 

Kreighton Kanitz had a game high 21 points while Barrett Moddelmog scored 10 and Henry Hecox had nine.

 

SCORING > Wildcats won 54-52 (17-3)

MOUNDRIDGE LADY WILDCATS hosting Sterling

 

The Lady Wildcats closed out their regular season with a 23-point, 59-36 win over the Lady Black Bears of Sterling.

 

Getting past a struggle in the first quarter which saw Moundridge fall behind by six, 7-13, they put 20 points on the scoreboard in the second quarter and went to the halftime break up by seven, 27-20. Coming  out of the break they poured another 20 points in the scorebook to put the game away.

 

Macy Kaminkow finished with a double double after scoring 15 points to go with pulling down 10 rebounds. Three other Lady Wildcats finished in double digits as Cammi Unruh scored 14, Addy Patrick chipped in with 11 thanks to three three-pointers, and Hattie Hecox finished with 10.
