HALSTEAD – The Smoky Valley boys finally got their first win of the season on Friday on the road at Halstead, winning by 10, 68-58.

 

After putting 25 points in the scorebook in the first quarter for a 25-13 lead, the Vikings settled in and held a 13-point, 33-20 advantage as the teams took the halftime break.

 

After pushing the lead out to 17 points at 51-34 by the end of the third quarter, Halstead chipped away in the final eight minutes though the Vikings hung on for the final 10-point victory.

 

Smoky Valley shot 52% from the field and a perfect seven-for-seven at the free throw line while pulling down 35 total rebounds, 11 on the offensive end and 24 on the defensive side.

 

Taylor Campbell had a big night for the Vikings as he led the team in scoring with 25 points while being a handful on defense in making seven steals and three blocked shots. Ty Heitschmidt nearly recorded a double double as he scored 14 points while also pulling down nine rebounds.

 

With the win the Vikings finish the pre-Christmas part of their schedule 1-4.
