VIKING WRESTLERS PLACE 3RD AT HOISINGTON

Mullen, Gardner, Barnes Earn 1st Place Medals

HOISINGTON – On Thursday, the Smoky Valley boys and girls wrestling teams traveled an hour west on highway four to battle at the Hoisington Cardinal Round Robin Meets where both teams placed third while earning a total of three individual championships.

For the Viking boys, they rolled up 123.5 team points to place third in the team  standings behind Hoisington (173.5) and Hill City (169.5). Anthony/Harper/Chaparral and Leoti/Wichita County rounded out the top five of 13 teams that participated.

Parker Gardner at 175 and Conor Barnes at 132 both won their divisions by going 5-0. Takoda Hauck and Deonte Crain each went 4-1 and finished second at 138 and 113 plus Geovanni Luis went 4-1 and took third at 190.

The Lady Vikings also finished third in the team standings as they hit the 100.0 team point mark. Plainville won the meet with 117.0 points and Hoisington took second with 114.0 while Larned (96.0) and Abilene (76.0) rounded out the top five of 17 teams wrestling.

Leading the team was Keira Mullen who scored five straight falls in going 5-0 and taking first in the 135 division. Taytum Reed recorded four falls in going 4-1 and placing second at 125 with both Kate Griffin at 170 and Kasyn French at 140 finished third in their divisions.

Coming up next week, the Lady Vikings will be at Nickerson on Tuesday with the Viking boys going to Nickerson on Friday.
