VIKING HARRIERS FINISH 2nd at ELLSWORTH

Mullen, Eyer’s, Clark, Peterson Finish in top-10

ELLSWORTH – At the Ellsworth Invitational on Thursday, the Smoky Valley cross country finished second in both the girls and boys division while landing five runners in top-ten positions.


For the Lady Vikings, they missed a team championship by one point as they ended up scoring 57 points while Salina Sacred Heart won the event with 56 points. Abilene, Republic County and Chapman rounded out the top five.


Kiera Mullen ran third for the Smoky Valley girls with Sophia Eyer and Esther Clark both placing in the top-ten as well at seventh and ninth, respectively. Clark also ran a season best time in the race.


The Viking boys also finished second, scoring 64 team points, well behind team champion Chapman with 34. Abilene, Ellinwood, and Minneapolis finished out the top five.


Smoky Valley loaded up the bottom of the top-ten runners as Britton Becker ran seventh, Samuel Peterson finished eighth and Brayden Eyer placed ninth.


In the boys junior varsity run, Blain Smith finished seventh to lead five Viking runners.


Next up for the Viking runners will be on Thursday, October 12 at the Central Kansas League Meet in Pratt.
