TEUTON RUNNERS RUN WELL AT HOA MEET

Martisko, Roots Medal – Earn All-League Honors

HUTCHINSON – Despite the wind, the Inman cross country team presented themselves well at the HOA (Heart of America) League Meet Thursday in Hutchinson where two Teuton boys earned medals and all-league honors.

In a field of 84 runners, Teuton sophomores Tyler Martisko and Riley Roots placed eleventh and fourteenth, respectively, in the boys division running an 18:10.00 and an 18:25.30 while earning medals for both. Martisko and Roots also earned themselves honorable mention All-League honors as well.

“The wind tempered the competitiveness a little in terms of times,” note Teuton head coach Jay Parsons. “But everyone had to bear down and compete the best that they could.”

For the Lady Teutons, sophomore Addison Wedel had the best finish in the girls division by placing twentieth, whole sophomore Abigail Siemens and senior Lacie Baxter also ran.

Coach Parsons continued his post-meet reflections by adding, “Times this week are a bit off compared to previous weeks, however, I think we are running very well. The goal is to keep everyone healthy and staying strong so they can finish the season doing well.”

In a pair of junior high girl races, seventh-grader Loki Turcotte finished nineth in the one-mile run while Jayden Roots placed nineteenth in the two-mile eighth-grade girls race.

Speaking of his junior high runners, coach Parsons explained, “The junior high season drew to a close with the league meet. Loki (Turcotte) had a successful season, and I am sure she didn’t know what to expect but as the season progressed, she took it on and finished very well. Our eighth-grader, Jayden Roots, had more knowledge about cross-country but then had to learn how to run a longer distance than previously. I hope all of them will stay with it and next year be ready to move up to an even longer distance.”

Finishing with a look at his high school runners, Parsons concluded his reflections by saying, “the high school runners will run on this same course for regionals. We will see many of the same teams but there will be other teams we have not competed against previously. However, all of that doesn’t matter because we along with all of them have to show up and run our best race to extend the season.”

The Teuton runners will be back in Hutchinson on Saturday, October 21 for their Class 1A State Regional Meet before hopefully qualifying for the Class 1A State Meet on Saturday, October 28 at Wamego Country Club in Wamego.
