VIKINGS WIN BY 23 OVER NICKERSON

NICKERSON – By scoring a 36-13 win on the road at Nickerson on Friday, the Smoky Valley football team broke a four-game losing streak.
After holding a one-point, 8-7, lead at the end of the first quarter, the Vikings put another two scores on the board in quarter two to take a 22-7 advantage into the halftime break.
Scoring twice more in the third quarter, Smoky Valley gave up one more score but held on to score the final 23-point victory.
With Ty Heitschmidt not completing any of his three passes, the entire offensive attack for the Vikings came on the ground where they ran the ball 62 times, covering 387 yards and scoring five times.
Gavin Stambaugh had a huge night as he ran the ball 25 times, picking up 225 yards and scoring twice. Ezekiel Baker pitched in with 105 yards of his own on 24 totes with a pair of touchdowns as well.
Ezekiel Baker also led the defense with six tackles while Crew Elliott, Hunter Koehn, Auley Boughfman, Jack Opat, and Geo Luis all recorded five stops.
Now 2-5 for the season, the Vikings close out the regular season schedule on Friday at Hillsboro. Hillsboro will enter the game with a record of 3-4 after shutting out Lyons, 34-0, last Friday.
