VIKINGS GET HUMBLED BY HESSTON, 48-6

            HESSTON – On Friday, the Smoky Valley youthful football team traveled south to battle with ninth-ranked Hesston where the Swathers scored a 48-6 win over the Vikings.

 

            Hesston scored all their points in the first half while the Vikings waited until  the fourth quarter to find the end zone on a scoring pass from Ty Heitschmidt to Kristian Ryan to make the final 6-48 score.

 

            Smoky Valley could only muster up 100 yards in total offense, split evenly between 55 yards passing and 45 yards running.

 

            Ty Heitschmidt completed six-of-thirteen passes for 55 yards and Gavin Stambaugh led the running attack with 29 yards on 14 carries. Kristian Ryan may have caught  the touchdown, it was Toren Miller who was Heitschmidt’s favorite target, catching four passes for 43 yards.

 

            On defense, Hesston nicked the Vikings for 351 yards on 36 offensive plays with 182 coming through the air and 169 covered on the ground.

 

            Blake Gengler led the Vikings defense with seven tackles, Geo Luis, and Gavin Stambaugh each recorded six and Toren Miller along with Auley Boughfman each had five.

 

            The loss drops the Vikings to just 1-4 on the season as they prep to play host to top-ranked Andale on Friday, October 11. Andale scored a 58-6 win over Nickerson on Friday.
