CLARK WINS, 7 EARN TOP-20 FINISHES AT HESSTON INVITATIONAL

HESSTON – Traveling to run at the unique Hesston Invitational Special on Thursday, the Smoky Valley cross country team earned a single individual championship while placing seven runners in the top-20 of their division out of 17 Viking runners competing.
The Hesston Invitational Special is unique in that they divide the runners up by small and large schools and then by class in high school.

For the Lady Vikings they were led by senior Esther Clark who ran a season best 20:21.00 to finish first among the 20 runners in the small school senior division. Fellow Lady Viking senior, Sophia Fruits ran fifth with a time of 23:09.00. Both ran season best times.
Hope Willems finished third in the 5K small school junior girls’ division and Sophia Eyer ran fifth in the sophomore division among the other six Lady Vikings at the event.
Among the nine Viking boys running at Hesston, senior Britton Becker scored the best finish with a seventh place run in the small school senior division while Isaiah Ayala finished 16th in the sophomore division. Overall, five of the nine running finished with season best times.
Coming up next for the Smoky Valley cross country runners will be on Thursday, September 19 when they travel north to run at the Clay Center invitational.
