CANTON – For the 2023-24 season a pair of Canton/Galva athletes, freshman Jaxon Chrislip and sophomore William Andreas, will compete as part of a co-op with the Hillsboro high school wrestling program.

Chrislip has already been competing with the Hillsboro Wrestling Club for several years while also wrestling through the co-op with their middle school team each of the past two seasons.

According to Scott O’Hare, head coach of the Hillsboro team, “Jaxon (Chrislip) went undefeated at 18-0 last season as an eighth grader. He comes in with a lot of wrestling experience and we are excited to see how it will translate for him to the high school level. At this time, we expect Jaxon to fill our varsity spot at 132 pounds.”

The other Eagle wrestling for Hillsboro will be William Andreas, a sophomore who is out for the wrestling for the first time although wrestling is found within his family as his uncle, Eric Wagner, was a three-time state qualifier, including finishing second in 1999 while wrestling for the McPherson Bullpups.

According to Hillsboro coach O’Hare, “William (Andreas) will be competing for us in the 106-pound weight class, and we have found him very coachable as he continues to make great progress through his first couple weeks of practice. His continued progress will determine whether he wrestles consistently in the varsity line up or if we hold him out of some varsity events to gain experience at the junior varsity level.”

Chrislip and Andreas will open their 2023-24 season with Hillsboro on Thursday, November 30 in a double dual at Minneapolis.
