WILDCAT BOYS REMAIN UNBEATEN WITH 3 WINS

            MOUNDRIDGE – The Moundridge boys continue to roll toward a prospective third straight Class 2A title this past week as they scored wins over Marion (72-37) on Friday, Bennington (64-44) on Monday, and Ell-Saline (53-41) on Tuesday to remain unbeaten at 17-0 and ranked number one in Class 2A.

 

            Both Bennington and Ell-Saline were wins over top-ten ranked teams in Class 2A. Up next for the Wildcats will be the always exciting county rival game with Inman on Friday in Moundridge.


 

            On Friday, the Wildcats scored a dominating 72-37 road win take down of Marion as they jumped out to 23-point, 27-4, lead at the end of the first quarter and had an advantage of 50-17 at the halftime break.

           

            Layton Schmidt led Moundridge in scoring with 13 while both Heath Churchill and Bear Moddelmog each chipped in with 11.

 

            On Monday at seventh-ranked Bennington, Moundridge took a five-point, 15-10, first quarter lead and stretched it to 22-point, 37-15, advantage at the halftime break. Bennington did keep up with the Wildcats in the final two quarters as they outscored the Wildcats 19-17, leaving Moundridge with the final 20-point, 64-44 victory.

 

            With the help of six three-pointers, Bear Moddelmog had a monster night scoring with 27 points while Zach Dixon joined him in double digits with ten.

 

            Tuesday the Wildcats played host to Ell-Saline, the fourth-ranked team in Class 2A, and they gave Moundridge a fight early as Ell-Saline had a  one-point, 9-10, lead at the end of the first quarter before the Wildcats turned the offensive tide in the second quarter, outscoring the visitors 14-7, to take a six-point, 23-17, home team advantage into the halftime break. While Ell-Saline continued to battle in the final half of the game, the Wildcats held on to gain the final 12-point, 53-41, victory.

 

            Henry Hecox and Kaizer Kanitz led the Wildcats in scoring with 18 and 13 points, respectively.
