WILDCAT BOYS, GIRLS SCORE WINS AT HILLSBORO TROJAN CLASSIC

            HILLSBORO – It was a clean sweep of the first round at the Hillsboro Trojan Classic on Tuesday for the Moundridge boys’ and girls’ basketball teams as the Wildcat boys pounded Riley County 56-26 and the Lady Wildcats humbled Holcomb by thirteen, 46-33.

            With the win, the Class 2A top ranked Wildcat boys will tangle with Holcomb on Friday, Holcomb is currently ranked sixth in Class 3A. The Lady Wildcats, ranked third in Class 2A will battle with tournament host Hillsboro on Friday as well.

            For the Lady Wildcats, they took an early 11-point, 17-6 lead over Holcomb at the end of the first quarter before  pushing the lead to 17 points, 30-13, heading into the halftime break. Holcomb kept the game even in the third quarter before knocking four points off the lead in the fourth as the Moundridge girls hung on for the final 13-point victory.

            Cammi Unruh had a huge game with a game high of 19 points to go with six steals, a pair of blocked shots and rebounds, plus three assists. Mackie Conkling also reached double digits in the scorebook with 13 while Hattie Hecox was a monster in the paint, pulling down 10 rebounds.

            For the Wildcat boys, they jumped on Riley County and took a six point, 14-8, first quarter lead and extended it to 19, 31-12 at the halftime break. Outscoring Riley County 25-14 in the final two quarters propelled the Moundridge boys to their final 30-point victory.

            Henry Hecox led the team in scoring with 16 points while Heath Churchill pitched in with 13 and Bear Moddelmog scored 11.
