            MANHATTAN – With the 33-point, 58-25, win over Pittsburg-St. Mary’s/Colgin (PSMC) on Wednesday, the Moundridge boys place themselves one game closer to a shot at a three-peat Class 2A state championship.

 

            Now sitting on a 24-0 record for the season, the Wildcats will tangle with fourth-seed Valley Falls (20-4) on Friday with the winner facing off with the victor of the battle between Sterling (21-3) and Ell-Saline (21-3) for the Class 2A state championship on Saturday.

            Leading by just three, 7-4, at the end of the first quarter, the Wildcats poured 20 points into the scorebook in the second quarter to power out for an 18-point, 27-9, advantage over PSMC at the halftime break. After pushing the lead to 24, 43-19, by the end of the third quarter, the Wildcats cruised in for the final 33-point, 58-25, victory.

 

            The win came despite Moundridge being out rebounded 32-19 due to the defense forcing PSMC into making 22 turnovers which gave the Wildcats the opportunity to outscore PSMC off turnovers, 20-2. Moundridge also held a decisive advantage in scoring from the bench, 21-12.

 

            Heath Churchill led the Wildcats in scoring with 12 while Kepple Adolf scored 11 and Bear Moddelmog chipped in with 10.
