LADY WILDCATS WIN PAIR, PLAY FOR STATE TRIP

            MOUNDRIDGE – The Moundridge girls have played themselves into the championship game of their Class 2A sub-state playoffs with a Friday 64-26 win over Ell-Saline followed by a Wednesday victory over Hillsboro (43-33).

            Now 20-2 for the season and ranked second in Class 2A, the Lady Wildcats will now tangle with Whitewater/Remington on Saturday, March 8 for a trip to the state tournament. Whitewater/Remington will bring a 17-5 record into the game after beating Conway Springs, 47-28. Moundridge defeated Whitewater/Remington by 14, 46-32, in their final regular season game on February 21.

            Against Ell-Saline, the Lady Wildcats used eight three- pointers in earning the final 38-point, 64-26 victory.

            Mackie Conkling, just a freshman, had a big night as she led the team in scoring with 14 while grabbing team highs in both rebounds with seven and assists with three. Cammi Unruh also reached double digits with 13 thanks to three three-pointers, and Ashtyn Patrick chipped in with nine.

            As for the battle with the Lady Trojans of Hillsboro, Moundridge was tied, 7-7, at the end of the first quarter and trailed by four, 14-18, at the halftime break. After putting up fourteen points in the third quarter to take a five point, 28-23 advantage, the Lady Wildcats put up another 15 in the fourth period to earn the final 10-point, 43-33 win.

            Cammi Unruh had a game high of 21 points.
