It was a busy week for the McPherson Middle School eighth-grade girls basketball teams as they went on the road and played six games over three days and managed to win five with just one loss.
With the eighth-grade Junior Lady Pups ‘A’ team, they went 2-1 for the week with a 32-9 win over Rose Hill on Monday, followed by a 37-18 victory over Prairie Hills on Tuesday before losing a three-point, 22-25 game at Wellington on Thursday.
In the game with Rose Hill, the team was led by Kennedy Bonham who recorded a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds while Amarie Lowery also scored 10 and made five steals.
At Prairie Hills on Tuesday, Audra Sandbo led the Junior Lady Pups with 10 points and snagged seven rebounds plus dishing out five assists, Kennedy Bonham chipped in with eight points and grabbed eight rebounds. Amarie Lowery also scored eight points and passed out five assists.
The loss to Wellington came despite both Jersey Alexander and Karlie Cooper scoring eight and Kennedy Bonham grabbing another six rebounds.
With the ‘B’ team, they pulled a rare shutout against Rose Hill, winning 19-0 as Allison Randa scored eight.
Against Prairie Hills, it was all defense as the Junior Lady Pups ‘B’ team scored an 8-4 win, no individual stats were available.
At Wellington, the eighth grade ‘B’ team remained unbeaten with a 17-6 win as Allison Randa dropped in 13 of the teams points.
Overall, for the season the eighth-grade Junior Lady Pups ‘A’ team is now 4-1 while the ‘B’ team is 5-0.
Next up will be three games with hosting Winfield on Monday, and Ark City on Tuesday before traveling to Augusta on Thursday.
