Handle Winfield, Ark City – Lose to Augusta

By Staff

MCPHERSON – The week started out good with a pair of wins both Monday and Tuesday before losing a pair on Thursday for the McPherson Middle School seventh-grade girls basketball team.

With the four wins and two losses, the Junior Lady Pups ‘A’ team is now 5-3 for the season while the ‘B’ team raised their record to 3-5.

Against Winfield on Monday, the seventh-grade Junior Lady Pups ‘A’ team scored a dominating 32-point, 40-8 victory lead by Caysen Blake who scored 13 points, pulled down seven rebounds and made nine steals in the contest.

“The girls played a great game,” noted head coach Heidi Ricke. “Our defense was top notch, and the girls executed our offense well. Caysen (Blake) had a great game. It was the most complete game we have had on both sides of the ball.”

In the ‘B’ game, McPherson earned their second win of the season with a nine-point, 33-24 win as Izzabell Klamczynski reached doubled digits in scoring with 10 and lead the team in steals with five. Zayna Busse dominated the rebounding as she pulled down 14.

Remarking about the ‘B’ game, coach Ricke added, “The girls showed a lot of improvement. Coach Stalnakar and I were really impressed with how the girls executed their set plays. They showed a lot of patience in running the plays and rebounding the ball. We had a good night and hopefully can carry the momentum over to the other games this week.”

On Tuesday, hosting Arkansas City, the ‘A’ team scored another convincing 20-point, 33-13 win as Caysen Blake again had a huge game by leading the team in scoring with 12, rebounds with nine and steals by swiping six along with Kamryn Prescott.
