Winfield – Tuesday was a huge day for the McPherson Middle School girls tennis team as they traveled to Winfield for the Patriot League Middle School Tennis Tournament and came home with both the team championship and seven of eight individual championships.
“McPherson won the eight-team League Tournament with a score of 177 out of a possible 180 points,” explained Junior Lady Pup head coach Paul Reichenberger. “Today was the culmination of an amazing tennis season as these girls are very special both on and off the court. They won the tournament with a total of 177 points, just three points off a perfect 180. Every girl but one earned first place today.”
Quinn Liebl, Audra Sandbo and Kamryn Prescott each went 3-0 to win their singles division.
All four of the Junior Lady Pup double tandems swept through the tournament, going a combined 12-0. These tandems included Lleyton Kuhn/Mayson Wiens, Maddie Ekholm/Emily Reno, Haydn Eveland/Mirmitha PremAnanth, plus Liz Britting/Stephanie Fonesca-Gonzalez.
Closing out his season and post-league reflections, coach Reichenberger said, “I want to give a shout out to this group of eighth grade girls. They had the best middle school tennis team record of my five years coaching the team, plus they completed back-to-back undefeated seasons. Additionally, they are amazing girls off the court who work hard in school and are just a joy to be around. I will miss them tremendously as they graduate from McPherson Middle School and move on to high school next year. Coach Weiner and I could not be prouder of all they have accomplished during their time here at McPherson Middle School.”
