MCMANNIS EARNS 4 WINS IN EAGLE OPENING MEET

BENNINGTON – While the Eagle track/field teams struggled scoring team points in the season opening meet at Bennington on Thursday, senior Eagle Lane McMannis set a tone for the season by scoring wins in four events.
McMannis, who won State gold in a relay and medaled in three individual events in 2023, scored wins in both the javelin and 200 meters while sweeping first in both the 100- and 300-meter hurdles.
As a team, the Eagle boys finished fifth out of ten teams with 46 points. Ell-Saline and Bennington took first and second in the team standings with 123 and 106 points, respectively.
Both John Erskin and Jayden Barnett also scored points for Canton/Galva as Erskin placed fourth in the 100 meters and Barnett finished fifth in the 400 meters.
The Lady Eagles placed ninth our of ten teams with 15 points.
Scoring points for the Canton/Galva girls was Honesty Williams running fourth in the 300-meter hurdles, Jordyn Elliot placing sixth in the 100-meter hurdles and Londyn Dietrich finishing sixth in the triple jump. The Lady Eagles 4x100 meter relay quartet of Elliot, Williams, Makinlee Hoppes, and Trinity Espinoza also placed sixth.
According to head coach Tina McMannis, “It was great to get out and compete at this early season meet. We now have some marks and times to give us a starting point for the season. I am excited to see some very promising starts from several athletes.”
The Canton/Galva boys and girls tracksters will be back on road Tuesday, April 2 at Burrton in a meet that includes Goessel, Haven, Herington, and Centre as well.
