By Staff
The Little River girls basketball team are hoping to make a run again for a state championship in 2025/26 and by the way they opened the season they appear to be on a mission as they dismantled Chase County to the tune of a 68-point, 87-19, win on Tuesday night.
Running out to a huge 22-point, 27-5 lead by the end of the first quarter, the Lady Redskins never looked back and never let up on the gas pedal by pushing the advantage out to 56-9 by the halftime break. After putting another 26 points on the board in the third quarter, Little River let up on the gas and cruised in for the final 87-19 dominating victory.
The Lady Redskins connected on 63% of their two-point shots making 29-of-46 while making six-of-22 three pointers as well and hitting 11-of-16 at the free throw stripe. Dominating in the paint, Little River outscored Chase County 54-14 under the basket, scored 39 points off turnovers while Chase County only scored two and out pointed Chase County 21-1 on second point chances.
Evie Look led the Lady Redskins in scoring with 23 while Avery Lafferty hit for 16, Arika Feldman scored 15 and Macy Schubert pitched in with 10 as nine girls put points in the scorebook.
It was a team win as 10 Lady Redskins recorded grabbing at least one rebound with Lafferty leading the team with six, Feldman pulled down five and both Havana Olander and Addelynne Strecker grabbed four. Little River as a team dished out 21 assists with Saelyn Raleigh passing out five while Feldman and Strecker each handed out four. On defense, the Lady Redskins swiped 26 steals led by Strecker with five, and Raleigh, Lafferty and Look each grabbing four.
Next up for the Lady Redskins will be playing next week in the Goessel Bluebird Classic Tournament beginning on Monday, December 8 against Hutchinson Central Christian, followed by a game on Friday, December 12 battling Elyria Christian and then finishing with a team to be determined on Saturday, December 13.
