LITTLE RIVER VOLLEYBALL ROLLS TO SUB-STATE TITLE

Now 37-2, 2nd Seed at State

LITTLE RIVER – On Saturday the Little River Volleyball team assured themselves of the opportunity to defend their state championship title by rolling through sub-state with a pair of straight set wins over Goessel and Canton/Galva.

Now 37-2 for the season, Little River will be the second seed behind Montezuma/South Gray at the Class 1A Division I state Tournament in Dodge City on Friday and Saturday, October 27-28.

The Lady Redskins will be in pool two along with Spearville, Clifton/Clyde and Olpe. Pool one will have top seeded Montezuma/South Gray, Centralia, Wichita Central Christian Academy, and Atwood/Rawlins County.

Hosting their sub-state, the Lady Redskins had a first-round bye before tackling Goessel for which they put away in straight sets 25-22 and 25-11. Kate Ellwood directed the team and dished out 16 assists while Adelynne Strecker hammered out 16 digs and both Ashley Stephenson and Havana Olander each recorded six blocks. Stephenson, Alaina Eck and Aubrey Olander each made six kills as well.

In the sub-state finals, Little River scored a decisive straight set (25-13 / 25-13) win over Canton/Galva led by Ellwood who once again directed the offense and passed out another 14 assists. Adelynne Strecker punched out 13 digs, Aubrey Olander made four blocks and Alaina Eck recorded seven kills.
