LITTLE RIVER STYMIES SOLOMON

Wins 54-8, Smith totals 306 yards in offense, scores 5 times!!

SOLOMON – Going on the road Friday to Solomon, the Little River football team ran past Solomon for a 46-point, 54-8 victory.


Now 3-1 for the season, the Redskins will host Moundridge next Friday, September 29. The Wildcats are 4-0 on the season after a 48-0 thumping of Pretty Prairie on Friday. Moundridge is ranked fifth in 8-Man Division I currently by catchitkansas.com.


On Friday, Little River scored three times in the first quarter, starting off with a 59-yard pass play from Andrew Smith to Jaren Garrison with was followed by a 70-yard punt return for a score by Andrew Smith plus a 13-yard run for the end zone by Smith as well. This gave the Redskins a commanding 24-0 advantage after one quarter with three successful two-point conversions.


Little River put two more scores on the board in the second stanza on a 21-yard run by Kyler Bergkamp and a 45-yard dash for a score by Smith, giving the Redskins a huge 40-0 halftime advantage.


Solomon broke a 53-yard pass play for a score early in the third quarter to narrow the score to 40-8 after which Little River put the game away with Andrew Smith running for two more scores, this time from 33 and 59 yards out. By pushing the score out to 54-8, the game was over due to the 8-man point rule.


Little River rolled up 357 yards on 27 offensive snaps or 13.2 yards per snap while holding Solomon to 187 yards on 43 plays. The Redskins picked up 289 yards of those on the ground while Solomon earned the majority of their yards through the air with 169.


Neither team made many mistakes as nobody had a turnover and Little River was only penalized twice for 20 yards and Solomon had penalties called on them seven times for just 30 yards.


Andrew Smith supplied 304 yards in total offense as he ran 14 times for 236 yards and four touchdowns while completing two-of-four passes for 68 yards and a score. Smith also returned a pair of punts for 106 yards and a score.


On defense, Carter Stansbury led Little River with 10 tackles of which seven were solo stops.
