HOPE – The Little River high football team used a power running game on Friday as they hustled past Rural Vista on the road and gained a 40-point, 60-20 victory.

Andrew Smith put the Redskins on the board in the first quarter on a breakaway 38 yard run to the end zone and with Rural Vista putting a matching score on the board as well the two teams were tied 8-8 at the end of the first.

After the two teams exchanged scores early in the second quarter with a 13-yard pass for a score from Smith to Chris Norez and Rural Vista busting loose on a 55-yard scoring pass, the Redskins took over and added a pair of scoring runs by Jaren Garrison to the scoreboard, giving Little River a cushion of 18 points at 32-14 at the halftime break.

Ty Janette took a short nine-yard pass from Smith to find the end zone in the third stanza and Smith added an eight-yard scoring sprint to put the Redskins up 48-14 when Rural Vista put one more score on the board to leave the score at 48-20 heading into the final quarter of play.

Both Smith and Jaxson Konen brook off lengthy rumblings to the end zone from 44 and 45 yards out in the fourth quarter to give Little River their final 40-point, 60-20 victory margin.

According to the stat sheet, the Redskins defense held Rural Vista to just 2.91 yards per 57 offensive snaps while they rang up 337 yards on just 43 plays, including 312 on the ground.
