REDSKINS EARN TRIP TO STATE!!!!

            CANTON – They did it, the Little River boys came into their Class 1A Division I sub-state as the sixth seed and proceeded to close out with a strong 59-53 win over second seed Oxford on Saturday to earn a trip to the Class 1A Division I state tournament beginning on Thursday in Dodge City.

 

            Now 15-7, the Redskins will be the eighth seed at the state tournament meaning their first game will come against top seed Olpe who is 21-2 on the season. If they can beat the top-seed, Little River would then face the winner of the game matching fourth-seed Claflin/Central Plains (18-4) and fifth-seed Frankfort (18-6) on Friday in the state semi-finals. Of those teams, the Redskins have played Claflin/Central Plains in January and lost.


 

            The other side of the brackets for the Class 1A Division I state tournament will have second-seed Coldwater/South Central (21-2) battling seventh-seed Clifton/Clyde (17-6) along with a tangle of third-seed Montezuma/South Gray (19-4) and sixth-seed Quinter (17-6).

 

            Against Oxford, the Redskins too a four-point, 13-9, lead at the end of the first quarter and extended it to a nine-point, 30-21, advantage when the teams hit the halftime break. Still leading by nine, 42-33, at the end of the third, Oxford tried to comeback in the fourth but fell short, giving the Redskins the final six-point, 59-53, victory.

 

            Little River won the game at the free throw line, where they made 17-of-34 to just 9-of-13 for Oxford.

 

            Logan Renken, Jaren Garrison, and Jaxson Konen all scored 13 points with Renken connecting on four three-pointers. Renken and Ty Janette

won the battle on the boards with seven and six rebounds each while Konen made six steals on defense.
