Lose Big to Elyria Christian

GOESSEL – On Tuesday, the Little River boys tangled with Elyria Christian in their opening game of the Goessel Bluebird Classic where they promptly had issues both shooting and handling the ball in a 25-61 loss.

The Elyria defense was tight and high pressure which caused the Redskins to commit 15 turnovers while shooting just 23% from the field, including 29% on two-point shots and just 21% from beyond the three-point line.

Elyria jumped all over Little River from the opening tip as they raced out to an 18-0 shutout lead by the end of the first quarter and held a commanding 36-9 advantage heading into the halftime break. Little River only managed 16 more points in the final two quarters combined in the loss.

“Elyria did a great job of applying pressure tonight to our guards,” explained Little River head coach Erik Base in his post-game reflections. “We also did not do a great job of handling the pressure tonight. We will get back in tomorrow, get back to work and use this tape and experience as a chance to grow.”

Freshman Blayne Baldetti led the Little River scorer with just seven points and Logan Renken topped the team in the paint with six rebounds.

Next up for Little River will be Friday against Canton/Galva and Saturday against Hutchinson Central Christian, both games as part of the Goessel Bluebird Classic.
