GOESSEL – In their second game of the Goessel Bluebird Classic, the youthful Little River boys lost their second game in a row in heartbreaking fashion, by two points in overtime to Canton/Galva.
Little River trailed by three, 10-13, at the end of the first quarter to the Eagles before they bounced back and outscored Canton/Galva 12-4 in the second quarter to take a five-point, 22-17 advantage into the halftime break.
Canton/Galva came out in the third quarter and pulled to within a pair of points at 31-29 before tying the game late at 42-42, sending it into overtime. The Redskins scored four points in overtime to the Eagles six, serving them the final two-point loss.
While Jaxson Konen and Logan Renken led the Redskins in scoring with 11 and 10 points each, it was CJ Herzog who had the huge overall game as he just missed double digits in scoring with nine while leading the team in assists with four and tied for the team high in both steals with four and rebounds with six. Herzog also recorded one of the teams two blocked shots.
The Little River defense had no stopping the Eagles Wyatt Collins as he scored 25 of their 48 points.
It was truly a team effort by Little River as six Redskins pulled down at least a pair of rebounds, and five Redskins recorded at a pair of steals among the team total of 16.
The Redskins, now 1-2 on the season, will close out playing the Goessel Bluebird Classic on Saturday with a game against Hutchinson Central Christian.
