LITTLE RIVER LOSES FOR FIRST TIME

Loses to Ell-Saline 24-14!!

BROOKVILLE – Little River football lost for the first time in 2023 as they went on the road Friday to play Ell-Saline and lost 24-14.


Neither team scored in the first quarter, but Little River put a score on the board first in the second quarter after Carter Stansbury found the end zone on a six-yard run. Ell-Saline bounced back with a scoring run of 55 yards and a pass play that covered 28 yards for a second score as they took a 12-6 lead into the halftime break.


After both teams failed to find the end zone in the third quarter, Ell-Slaine drove down and scored twice from one and five yards out in the fourth quarter before Little River finally scored one more on a 12-yard run by Andrew Smith.


In the stat sheet it was an even game as the Redskins used 71 plays to cover 259 yards while Ell-Saline rolled up 260 yards on 44 snaps. Most of the offense by both teams came on the ground as Little River picked up 209 yards rushing while Ell-Saline ran for 232.


Individually for the Redskins, Andrew Smith ran for 88 yards and Carter Stansbury covered 83 yards rushing.


Stansbury also led the defense with 12 tackles in the game.


Now 2-1 on the season, Little River will be on the road for the third week in a row on Friday, September 22 at Solomon. The Gorillas are 1-2 on the season after being beaten 70-24 to Canton/Galva.
